New York Jets vs. Tennessee Titans

This will be a very good football game as the Jets have won 6 of their last seven games while the Titans are a stunning 10-0 on the season.  The Jets will likely come out balanced on offense against the Titans.  RB Thomas Jones has been on a roll lately and he will be busy against a Titans’ Defense that is only allowing 95.1 yards rushing per game and 3.8 ypc.  The Titans must also keep tabs on Leon Washington who is a threat to go the distance any time he touches the football.  The Titans have 28 sacks this season and they will try to pressure Brett Favre into throwing the ball to them.  But, if Favre can protect the football he might be able to make a few plays against the Titans in the passing game.  Still, it won’t be easy as the Titans have 15 interceptions this season and opposing QBs have a rating of 60.9 when playing them.

The Titans love to run the football and they will try against the Jets who are allowing only 81.3 yards rushing per game and 3.4 yards per carry this season.  Chris Johnson and LenDale White better make sure their chinstrap is tight for this game.  This game will be won or lost on the offensive line for the Titans.  They have only allowed 6 sacks this season but the Jets already have 34 of them and the start blitzing when they get off the team bus.  If Kerry Collins has time to throw the ball he should have some success as the Jets allow 239.7 yards passing per game.

PREDICTION:  TENNESSEE TITANS 17, NEW YORK JETS 13

Brett Favre is starting to really play well for the New York Jets

Brett Favre can smell the playoffs on the near horizon so he’s taking his game up a notch.  He had been having some trouble with interceptions but he protected the ball great last night against the Patriots.  Favre has played in all 10 games for the Jets this season and he has completed 220 of 315 passes (69.8%) for 2,237 yards with 18 TD passes and 12 interceptions (93.0 QB Rating).  He also has carried the football 18 times for 15 yards (0.8 ypc) this season.  The Jets have a huge edge at QB heading into the final stretch of the season in the AFC East as Favre is head and shoulders better than anyone the Patriots, Bills or Dolphins can trot out on the field.

The Jets got a good effort out of their offense last night and that’s the reason why they are in first place in the AFC East now.  Brett Favre had a solid game completing 26 of 33 passes for 258 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions.  Favre protected the ball well in this game and he made some big time throws to seal the win.  Thomas Jones had another solid game rushing for 104 yards on 30 carries (3.5 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Jerricho Cotchery made probably the best catch I have ever seen in this football game and he finished with 5 grabs for 87 yards (17.4 avg) with a TD grab to lead the way for the Jets.  Rookie TE Dustin Keller had another solid game catching 8 passes for 87 yards (10.9 avg) as he is emerging as one of Brett Favre’s favorite targets.  RB/KR Leon Washington had another stellar game as he was a big key to this win for the Jets.  He returned 4 kickoffs for 177 yards (44.3 avg) including one that he returned 92 yards for a TD.  He also carried the ball 5 times for 18 yards (3.6 ypc) and he caught 2 passes for 17 yards including a TD.  The Jets finished up with 140 yards rushing on 39 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 26 of 33 passes for 235 yards.  The Jets possessed the football for a stunning 39:18 of this football game and they needed every second of it to hold off the Patriots.

Linebacker Eric Barton had a superhuman effort against the Patriots last night as he led the Jets with 17 tackles and he forced a fumble.  Still, the Patriots rolled up 125 yards rushing on 25 carries (5.0 ypc) and they also completed 30 of 51 passes for 386 yards.  This was a huge win for the Jets.

The New York Jets sign CB Ty Law

The Jets signed 34-year old veteran CB Ty Law earlier in the week and he played last night against the Patriots and finished with 3 tackles.  Prior to last night Law has played in 189 games in his NFL career and he had made 816 tackles, had 5 sacks, 52 interceptions (7 of which he returned for TDs), he forced 6 fumbles and defensed 162 passes.  This was a solid move for the Jets as they needed some help in the secondary and Law still has some game left.
